Zeba,
I just
wanted to say that I enjoyed your Weebly submission for the Complementary
Medicine assignment. Your group made clear the differences between male and female
children and their experience and prevalence of anxiety. I was also encouraged
that you were able to find so many videos and infographics on yoga specific to
children. As a child of the late 60s-70s, I was exposed to yoga through my
mother and feel that this practice is undersold in the childhood demographic,
not only as it relates to management of anxiety, but childhood development
generally.
I think a
main heading indicating this section of your website is about complementary
medicine for women and then introduce yoga and anxiety may be a more in keeping
with the assignment requirement. In the interest of accuracy, you open with the
thought that anxiety is a “coping mechanism”. I believe it is more of a symptom
response to situations, both acute and chronic, that require coping mechanisms.
You may wish to clarify this a little more. Also, on a technical note, literature
and research is typically discussed in the past tense per APA style. So, the
research “found” or “Researchers shared…” in the first paragraph. I might also
say “female children” or just “girls [age range]” rather than “childhood girls”
as the latter does not scan well.
Your
inclusion of mindfulness is highly relevant with the practice of yoga. However,
this concept seems to have been abruptly dropped into the conversation via
video but not in the text. Perhaps a sentence explaining mindfulness would
better prepare the viewer on what this is and how it integrates with yoga to
benefit the anxious child?
Your
headings are clear and relevant to your content and the ideas flow sequentially.
I like your group’s use of strategies to reduce risk and disadvantages, rather
than just listing disadvantages. Of course, it is always a pleasure to watch
children giving their best efforts in videos, so these additions made reviewing
your submission highly enjoyable.
